Martin Rivera was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. His interest in music appeared already from a very young age. When he arrived to the New York City as a student in the year 1980, he discovered salsa and very quickly became aware of his talent and motivation to invest in it. He joined one of the local dance teams in NYC and performed with them on locally, but also international events. In 1990 he established himself as a talented choreographer in Rhode Island working alongside youth programs and city events. By 2008 he developed his own dance fusion project, Salsalegre Events Providence of which he is the director. This project allowed him to venture off to the Dominican Republic to host a Latin dance vacation/excursion catered to students wanting to travel, experience culture and learn to dance. During this time, He Partner up with the sensational Sydonee Harris, (a talented dancer herself) as a dance duo in Providence, They have creatively executed various innovative dance workshops and classes both inside the dance studio and at local entertainment venues in the Providence area. The most successful and recognizable event has been their SalsaCity Nights, in which they dance host an evening of lessons and social dancing open to the public on a weekly basis during Spring and summer seasons in Rhode Island.
Currently Martin works as a professional Salsa Coach/Instructor, performer and choreographer. He created his own style, & personalized brand of Salsa Coaching for Private session which is characterized by his passion, energy, and creativity. He teaches salsa in Providence RI, both on “1″ and on “2″, and is known for the effective way in which he teaches the “technique” of leading and following.
